Regular <strong><em>&lt;img&gt;<\/em><\/strong> attributes apply.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>usemap<\/td>\n<td>The name of the map with a hash symbol prepended to it. For example, for a map with name=&#8221;map&#8221;, the image should have usemap=&#8221;#map&#8221;.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong><em>&lt;map&gt;<\/em><\/strong><\/td>\n<td>\u00a0<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>name<\/td>\n<td>The name of the map to identify it. To be used with the image&#8217;s usemap attribute.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong><em>&lt;area&gt;<\/em><\/strong><\/td>\n<td>Below are <em><strong>&lt;area&gt;<\/strong><\/em>-specific attributes. When href is specified, making the <em><strong>&lt;area&gt;<\/strong><\/em> a link, <strong><em>&lt;area&gt;<\/em><\/strong><br \/>also supports all of the attributes of the anchor tag (<strong><em>&lt;a&gt;<\/em><\/strong>) except ping. See them at the <a href=\"https:\/\/developer.mozilla.org\/en-US\/docs\/Web\/HTML\/Element\/a\">MDN docs<\/a><a>.<\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>alt<\/td>\n<td>The alternate text to display if images are not supported. This is only necessary if href is also set on the <strong><em>&lt;area&gt;<\/em><\/strong>.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>coords<\/td>\n<td>The coordinates outlining the selectable area. When shape=&#8221;polygon&#8221;, this should be set to a list of<br \/>&#8220;x, y&#8221; pairs separated by commas (i.e., shape=&#8221;polygon&#8221; coords=&#8221;x1, y1, x2, y2, x3, y3, \u2026&#8221;).<br \/>When shape=&#8221;rectangle&#8221;, this should be set to left, top, right, bottom. When<br \/>shape=&#8221;circle&#8221;, this should be set to centerX, centerY, radius.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>href<\/td>\n<td>The URL of the hyperlink, if specified. If it is omitted, then the <em><strong>&lt;area&gt;<\/strong><\/em> will not represent a hyperlink.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>shape<\/td>\n<td>The shape of the <strong><em>&lt;area&gt;<\/em><\/strong>. Can be set to default to select the entire image (no coords attribute necessary), circle or circ for a circle, rectangle or rect for a rectangle, and polygon or poly for a polygonal area specified by corner points.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-introduction-to-image-maps\">Introduction to Image Maps<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Description<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An image maps is an image with clickable areas that usually act as hyperlinks.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The image is defined by the <strong><em>&lt;img&gt;<\/em><\/strong> tag, and the map is defined by a <strong><em>&lt;map&gt;<\/em><\/strong> tag with <strong><em>&lt;area&gt;<\/em><\/strong> tags to denote each clickable area. Use the usemap and <em>name<\/em> attributes to bind the image and the map.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Basic Example<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To create an image map so that each of the shapes in the image below are clickable:<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The code would be as follows:<\/p>\n\n<pre data-enlighter-language=\"generic\" data-enlighter-theme=\"\" data-enlighter-highlight=\"\" data-enlighter-linenumbers=\"\" data-enlighter-lineoffset=\"\" data-enlighter-title=\"\" data-enlighter-group=\"\">&lt;img src=\"http:\/\/jaced.com\/blogpix\/2007\/trisquarecircle\/002.gif\" usemap=\"#shapes\"&gt;\n&lt;map name=\"shapes\"&gt;\n &lt;area shape=\"polygon\" coords=\"79,6,5,134,153,134\"&gt;\n &lt;area shape=\"rectangle\" coords=\"177,6,306,134\"&gt;\n &lt;area shape=\"circle\" coords=\"397,71,65\"&gt;\n&lt;\/map&gt;<\/pre>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You should see that the browser recognizes the areas when the cursor becomes a pointer.
